Competition Training: Academy Horse Shows, Equestrian Riders – Select Show Horses, Sheridan, IN
Academy Shows: Competition & Horsemanship Training
The Riding Academy provides advanced training for riders who demonstrate the desire, skill level, commitment and work ethic needed to become a member of the Select Show Horses Competition Training Team. This “invitation only” program is designed for students who are serious about pursuing competitive horseback riding.
Competition Training is a monthly program that requires a higher level of commitmentthan the average student needs. To succeed at this level, team members must be willing and able to put in the extra time and dedication needed:
- Students take two lessons per week.
- Team members also participate in clinics, classroom learning and hands-on horsemanship two days per month (typically Saturdays).
- The Competition Training Program is designed to:
- Advance riding abilities quickly and at a higher level of intensity than the general lesson program
- Teach the fundamentals of horse care and management
- Help students set and accomplish goals for their equine endeavors
- Competition Team riders typically use a horse owned by Select Show Horses when they participate in Academy level shows.
Take Your Competition Riding to the Next Level
Many Competition Team riders desire to progress beyond Academy shows, and compete on a regional and national level. When the appropriate skill level is attained, Select Show Horses’ staff will:
- Help riders find an appropriate show horse to purchase or lease
- Advise on types of equipment and show apparel needed, and where to find it
- Prepare show entries
- Provide transportation, horse preparation and ringside coaching at the show
